Richard Croft was excellent as Tito and Anna Stéphany brought a stunning voice and excellent boyish manner to the role of Tito’s would-be assassin Sesto.
Fortunately this clumsy nonsense is outshone by wondrous singing from a hastily re-formed cast....
Director Claus Guth arrived with a high reputation for his Mozart but the gods did not smile on this production....
Fortunately, there is some excellent singing to distract us from the irritating visuals....
Richard Croft’s soft-grained, introspective Tito fails to project the strength of character that his music tells us underpins his leniency....
